Didn’t feel like putting “SPIDERSLASHERS” in the title, but this still counts right? Sorry it’s been so long!
It’s been a long time since I’ve written about a recent movie, two years as a matter of fact! It was a surreal experience going sitting in a movie theater with a group of people and watching something on a big ass screen but you know what? It was so nice. I’ve missed the theater-going experience. I’ve missed people talking during quiet scenes, I’ve missed people ahead of me bringing their phones out, I’ve especially silly missed the loud and distracting sounds of people eating nachos in a dark room where sound carries easily.
It kicked ass.
Anyways! Venom: Let There Be Carnage or as I like to call it, “2enom”. Let There Be Carnage is a sequel to Venom which is a genuinely bad movie that I hold near and dear to my heart. When they announced that they were making a sequel I was positively ecstatic. “God, I hope it even worse.” Those were the ACTUAL thoughts running through my brain, which is. Probably not great, honestly? But that’s how my dumb monkey brain works; badly.
Anyways, Let There Be Carnage was pretty good! Not AMAZING or anything like that, but I had a lot of fun with it. I’m still trying to get used to the fact that Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock is not even close to the original comic book version but I’ve grown to enjoy this version of the character. Tom Hardy delivers a great performance and makes this version of Eddy not only sympathetic but likable as well. Emphasis on “Pathetic”. Now Woody Harrelson on the other hand? Loved him. PERFECT choice for Cletus Cassidy. My man did a great job at playing an absolute freak.
I would post a picture of him but I do not feel like searching Google and crediting Entertainment Weekly.
I generally liked the story. It was nothing too special but it was good enough to have me on board with it. I liked how it dove deeper into Eddie and Venom’s relationship and how much it contrasted Cletus and Carnage’s. Other than that though it was…okay I guess? Kind of struggling to talk about it further, to be honest with you. “Why did you even bring it up then?” Because I needed this paragraph to be a bit longer. Cry about it. Make your own website.
My only REAL BIG complaint with 2enom is that while I love the humor and the comedic timing of the actors, I do think the film could taken itself a bit more seriously during a few scenes. I thought it was kind of weird they put in a minute-long joke RIGHT BEFORE the final fight between Venom and Carnage. It got a great reaction from the crowd I was with though so it’s more likely it’s a “me” thing but I can’t help what I feel! Also, yeah, I guess my paragraph about the story could be counted as a complaint too. Whoops.
Overall, I liked Let There Be Carnage! It was an okay movie! Really, I just wanted to talk about how weird it was being in a movie theater again. And plus…guys, I’ve missed writing about movies. Writing in general, really. I’m going to start doing it more just because it’s fun. Maybe once a month? Who knows! But I’ve missed it.
Go see the funny slime man movie!
